From the academic session 2015-16 (particularly on 24.06.2015) the colleges of West Bardhaman came under the jurisdiction of Kazi Nazrul University. All NSS units of the colleges also automatically came under the supervision of Kazi Nazrul University. Mr. Jayanta Chakraborty, Inspector of Colleges, was the 1st programme coordinator of this university. Total 23 units including two units of Kazi Nazrul University (campus) are working under the supervision of NSS Coordinator, Kazi Nazrul University. Dr. Anindya Sekhar Purokayastha was the second Programme Coordinator of NSS, Kazi Nazrul University. In his tenure two new units of Kazi Nazrul University (campus) were introduced. Volunteers of these units were actively participated in different social activities. blood donation camps, different awareness programmes, tree plantation programmes etc. Many other programmes were done successfully during his tenure in the KNU campus. In his absence Dr. Ujjal Kanti Roy took charge of NSS Cell, Kazi Nazrul University, Asansol. From 2018 onwards Dr. Roy is continuing his job as the Programme Coordinator.

NSS Cell of the university is very active since its inception and has a glorious past. NSS Cell has 23 units with volunteer base of around two thousand three hundred students (@ 100 students each unit). The volunteers belong to science, Arts, commerce etc. streams. Financial assistances are given through Kazi Nazrul University to these 23 units by central government. Each unit has to adopt a village for their activity. Some NSS volunteers are recruited from these adopted villages. These volunteers are entrusted with the responsibility to sustain the development of these adopted villages. Cleaning and different awareness programmes are carried throughout the year by the volunteers of these 23 units. Please see bellow the major activities of NSS Cell, KNU, at a glance:
