Centre for Entrepreneurship & Skill Development

Centre for Entrepreneurship and Skill Development was established vide 31st Executive Council meeting held on 22nd November, 2018 with an objective to act as a catalyst to the promotion and advancement of entrepreneurship and skill development activities in the state of West Bengal in particular and the nation in general.

Today, entrepreneurship and skill development activities is regarded as one of the important determinants for the industrial growth of a country and it has emerged as dynamic and vibrant area of any growing economy. It contributes a lot in the employment generation and helps in the socio economic development of the country or the state. In the present day global competition establishment of a business unit and sustaining it is becoming a big challenge. The dearth of the entrepreneur is and managerial skills is one of the most major problems being confronted by all the developing economies.

In order to meet the global challenges and the new opportunities thrown to the industrial development in the region and also to generate more employment for the youths and utilities of the human resource potential, entrepreneurship and skill development activities have to be given a priority. With increasing unemployment among the educated, the need is being felt for giving due attention to employable skills in higher education too.

The Centre intends to undertake the activities for promoting education, research, training and consultancy in the area of entrepreneurship and other industry related skill development activities inter alia the following:

  • To provide training on entrepreneurship and skill development programmes and to create avenues for employability of the educated youths.
  • To groom entrepreneurs to acquire sound management knowledge for running the organization in general and small scale industry, export-import units, services business and unorganized sectors etc. in particular.
  • To run higher degree/diploma level courses on entrepreneurship and its allied areas and create avenues for the youths to take up entrepreneurship as an alternative career.
  • To provide training programmes for the skill development activities particularly in establishing enterprises and export oriented units based on the resources available in the state of West Bengal.
  • To conduct Management Development Programmes/Trainings for working executives and managers of Private, government and non governmental organizations for sustaining competitive advantage.
  • To prepare and publish literatures related to entrepreneurship, project reports industrial and management development activities.
  • To organize seminars, symposium, conferences and workshops for providing a platform for interaction and exchange of views by various agencies, academia, entrepreneurs and working executives.
  • To organize visits and exchange programmes and to conduct research for generating new knowledge of management to accelerate the process of entrepreneurship and skill development activities.
  • To provide motivational and managerial traits and other training needs and support the skill development activities particularly in establishing service and knowledge based enterprises and export oriented units.
  • To act as a catalyst for development of self employment/entrepreneurship, industry/business and to document and disseminate information related toself employment and sources of finance etc.
  • To undertake joint research projects and collaborative works with institutes/universities of national and international repute which are interested inentrepreneurship and skill development within the country and abroad.
  • To undertake outreach action programmes for creating awareness and sensitization of entrepreneurship and incubating the entrepreneurial units in the state of West Bengal.
  • To adopt village(s) and provide necessary intellectual inputs for their socio-economic and livelihood development and create it a model village.
  • Evolving linkages with Industry, government departments, Banks, Financial Institutions, NGOs, civil society organizations and other academic Institutions to promote the entrepreneurship and skill development culture in the state and disseminating information related to self employment, hand holding activities and sources of finance.
