ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The patterns and quality of healthcare care services have advanced drastically in the last few decades due to the development and progress in technology. Thus, health system delivery is now considered as a team approach involving both allied and health care professionals. Allied and health care professionals who can efficiently handle high-tech and sophisticated machines and advanced protocols are now in high demand. Indeed, diagnosis of a condition is now so dependent on technology, that allied and healthcare professionals (AHPs) are essential to successful treatment approach.

Who is an Allied and Healthcare Professional?

‘Allied and healthcare professionals (AHPs) includes individuals involved with the delivery of health or healthcare related services, with qualification and competence in therapeutic, diagnostic, curative, preventive and/or rehabilitative interventions. They work in multidisciplinary health teams in varied healthcare settings including doctors (physicians and specialist), nurses and public health officials to promote, protect, treat and/or manage a person(‘s) physical, mental, social, emotional, environmental health and holistic well-being.’

In addition, department conducts seminars, workshops & journal clubs on latest advancements in the respective field of healthcare. Kazi Nazrul University has received a “No Objection” certificate from the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of West Bengal for Bachelor of Optometry, B.Sc in Medical Laboratory Technology, B.Sc in Medical Radiology and Imaging Technology and Bachelor of Physiotherapy.

PROGRAMS:
Bachelor of Optometry:
Bachelor of Optometry is a four-year undergraduate programme designed to produce a primary eye care professional. Students are trained for diagnosis and management of visual anomalies and various ocular conditions.The core courses of the programme including study of basic health science, vision and optometric sciences, anatomy and physiology, ocular diseases, optics and visual sciences. The students after graduating become a professional known as Optometrist.
Optometrists are the primary healthcare practitioners of the eye and visual system who provide comprehensive eye and vision care.It includes refraction and dispensing, detection/diagnosis and management of disease in the eye, and the rehabilitation of conditions of the visual system.

 Bachelor of Science in Medical Lab Technology:

Medical Laboratory Science is the branch of science which deals with all the clinical laboratory investigations on clinical samples for laboratory diagnosis of various diseases. It is the Medical Laboratory Technologist, who performs this important task by various scientific tools and techniques. At present, the diagnosis, treatment & prognosis of various diseases depends upon the results of investigations carried out by Medical Laboratory Technologist. Modern medicine becomes more of a team effort; the Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist is an important member and integral part of the Medical team.

  • Work in Diagnostics, Pathological, and Pharmaceutical Laboratories as a medical laboratory technologist

 Bachelor of Science in Medical Radiology & Imaging Technology:
Medical Radiology and Imaging Technology is the health profession concerned with the direct administration of radiation, primarily x-rays, in disease diagnosis and injury assessment and treatment. As a consequence of the increasing sophistication and accuracy of clinical imaging, the utilization and importance of radiology has increased dramatically and consistently over the past decades. In recent years, the increasing complexity of radiologic procedures has made a high demand of Medical Radiology and Imaging Technologist to maintain a high degree of accuracy in radiographic positioning and exposure technique.

Career prospects: 

  1. Work as full time Radiographer
  2. Work as X-Ray Technician, CT Technician, MRI Technician, Cath lab, Nuclear Medicine Technician.
  3. Work as full time Radiographer in any government and private hospitals
  4. Work as Tutor, Demonstrator or lecturer in hospital, institute or University.
  5. Radiation Safety officer for Radiology department of any hospital.

Bachelor of Physiotherapy:
Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) is a four-and-half-year undergraduate programme designed to expose the students to the field of rehabilitative medicine. The program fous on imparting practical knowledge including Exercise Therapy, Electrotherapy, Radiology & Imaging Technology, Orthopedics, Traumatology and General Medicine.
Students are trained in advanced level of physiotherapeutic skills including therapeutic exercises, application of electro-physical modalities, ultra sound therapies etc.which helps to manage a range of diseases and disabilities. It emphasizes on learning skills to improve movement dysfunction and to restore, maintain and maximize their physical strength, function, motion and overall well-being by addressing the underlying physical issues.
