Brief History of the Department
This Department was established in 2013. This is the first Science Department of the Kazi Nazrul University. Currently the Department runs two-year (four semesters) Post Graduate Programme (M.Sc.) in Mathematics under Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). A wide variety of optional papers from the fields of Mathematics and applications are provided in the Post Graduate programme. Ph.D. programme has been started from the year 2017.

- To create logical and analytical minds with abilities to analyze critically the mathematical and statistical information
- To impact on society through continual innovation in research, creativity and entrepreneurship
- To enable students capable of exploring mathematics not only for its own sake but also for the myriad ways, used in the modern world

- To provide an environment where students can learn and become competent users of Mathematics and Mathematical Applications
- To give our students a foundation for critical thinking by developing skills in logic and problem solving
- To offer our students academic challenges along with support to help them succeed which transcend the confines of the various fields of Mathematics
- To inculcate in students, the ability to apply mathematical and computational skills to model, formulate and solve real-life problems
- To make the students capable of discharging professional, social and economical responsibility ethically
