PREAMBLE


Kazi Nazrul University is committed to transform lives and serve the society through the pursuit of excellence in teaching, research, innovation, lifelong learning, cultural enrichment and outreach services. To accomplish its mission, this University provides intellectually inspiring, academically challenging and supportive environment conducive to personal growth by engaging in innovative and cutting-edge research within and across disciplines. This policy aims to promote quality research among the faculty members, research scholars, research associates, and undergraduate and postgraduate students of the University so that through these supportive and recognition measures, they can be further motivated in their research activities and can excel in future research and collaboration. The research output in the form of research programmes like PhD, MPhil, Postdoctoral studies, research projects, research fellowships, innovation, creativity and patents filing are encouraged by the University.


University Research facilities:


  • Institutional support is provided to the faculty members in the form of infrastructure for those who undertake advanced research and funded research projects of different funding agencies.
  • Research supports are provided to eligible research scholars in the form of supervision by eligible supervisors and timely M.Phil and Ph.D. admission notification, facilitation of research fellowships as per the modalities of University Norms and Regulations.
  • Academic support is given to the undergraduate and postgraduate students where the focus is on research along with academic curricula to serve the society in general and to promote and develop skill and knowledge in research activities. Encouragement is given to research work in Master's programme - dissertations and pilot projects even in the undergraduate level are also promoted.

 

This University also encourages faculty members and research scholars to establish networks with other universities, organizations and industries within India as well as abroad and go for MoUs for collaborative research initiatives. Periodically, every year the research output of faculty and researchers are collected and published by IQAC in 'Annual Report'(Annual Quality Assurance Report) in the university website for disseminating the information to all stakeholders. In a nutshell, the Research Promotion Policy of the KNU aims to help its faculty members, research personnel and other stakeholders to achieve excellence in 'Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship', contributing to social and economic development from the local to the global sphere.


OBJECTIVES


This policy provides a broad framework to guide research and integrity of scholarly inquiry at the University. The objectives of the policy are as follows:

  • To motivate the faculty members and eligible research scholars for cutting-edge research and innovations.
  • To motivate and facilitate faculty members and eligible research scholars to avail of good research fellowships, research scholarships, post-doctoral research fellowship or research stay scopes, international research collaboration facilities and global research connectivity offers. Statutory facilities are provided to all faculty members and scholars to apply and avail of these fellowships, research stays and international research collaborations.
  • To evince interest among faculty members and eligible research scholars for undertaking research projects of various funding agencies.
  • To encourage the faculty members and eligible research scholars for collaborative and interdisciplinary research projects.
  • To inspire the faculty members for sponsored consultancy projects.
  • To encourage the faculty members and eligible research scholars for creating, protecting and leveraging Intellectual Property Rights.
  • To invigorate the faculty members and research scholars for publication of quality researchwork in peer-reviewed national and international journals recognized by different citation indexes and relevant bodies.
  • To encourage teachers to pursue further higher studies by providingstudy leave and other statutory benefits.

 

To achieve the aforementioned objectives, the University institutes the following research award certificates and recognition:


A. Research Award Certificate to Recognize and Appreciate Research Excellence


The research award certificate shall be presented to the achievers annually based on the credits earned by regular faculty members of the University through various research activities.

  1. KNU Researcher Excellence Award Certificate

  2. KNU Best Researcher Award Certificate (Faculties of Sciences and Engineering & Technology)

  3. KNU Best Researcher Award Certificate (Faculties of Humanities, Commerce, Law, Social Science,and Performing & Visual Arts)

  4. KNU Best Researcher Department Award Certificate

  5. KNU Best Research Scholar Award Certificate (applicable to outstanding research scholars of all disciplines of the university)

(I) KNU Researcher Excellence Award Certificate


The KNU Research Excellence Award Certificate shall be presented to a faculty member achieving the highest credits based on the criteria mentioned in the Table 1. The minimum total credit points shall be 100. There should be minimum 15 credits each from any four categories. The recipient (s) will be felicitated with an award certificate. The university website will also announce this recognition. This certificate will be given to same individual only two times.


(II) KNU Best Researcher Award Certificate (Faculties of Sciences and Engineering &Technology)


This award certificate shall be given to a faculty member based on the criteria mentioned in Table 1. The faculty member with the highest credits shall be considered for this award (minimum credit points will be 75). There should be minimum 10 credits each from any three categories. The faculty member will be felicitated with an award certificate. The university website will also announce this recognition. The faculty receiving the KNU research excellence award of that year will not be considered for this award. This award will be given to same individual only two times.


(III) KNU Best Researcher Award Certificate (Faculty of Humanities, Management, Law, Social Science, Commerce and Performing & Visual Arts)


This award shall be given to a faculty member based on the criteria mentioned in Table 2. The faculty member with the highest credits shall be considered for this award (minimum credit points will be 75). There should be minimum 10 credits each from any three categories. The faculty member will be felicitated with an award certificate. The university website will also announce this recognition. The faculty receiving the KNU research excellence award of that year will not be considered for this award. This award will be given to same individual only two times.


(IV) KNU Best Research Department Award


This award shall be given to the Department of University receiving the highest funding from external sources based on the utilization of the same in concerned financial year. The grant received and utilized from DST-FIST/UGC-SAP/DBT-IPLS/ICSSR/Other national or foreign funding bodies, etc. for research, conference, symposia etc. and research grants received by the faculty members of that department will be considered for this award.


(V) KNU Best Research Scholar Award Certificate


This award would be given to Research scholars who excel in outstanding and high-quality research publications in internationally reputed and peer-reviewed journals. Recognition in this regard would be given to research scholars who have got prestigious research fellowships, research funding and internships abroad or in prestigious national institutes within India, excellent research collaborations with renowned researchers, research bodies, and research centers, etc. Recognition would also be given to research scholars who have shown innovation or have got patent rights. The names of these outstanding research scholars will also be highlighted in eth university website. This award would be provided annually and the selection for the best research scholars would be decided by a body to be formed by the Honourable Vice Chancellor.

PERIOD OF RECKONING


The calendar year is the period for calculating the points earned by the faculty members that is from 1st January to the 31st December of the respective year. Notifications will be made in this matter by 31st March except for KNU Best Research Department Award. The last date for the submission of faculty data for KNU Best Research Department Award will be 30th April.


AWARD SELECTION COMMITTEE


A five members committee shall be constituted by the Vice-Chancellor, KNU. In this committee, the Vice Chancellor, KNU will be the Chairman. The Dean, Academic Affairs/Research, KNU (if any or any Dean as nominated by the Vice Chancellor), The Director, IQAC,KNU, a faculty member with outstanding research track record, one member of the Central Research Committee of the University as nominated by the Vice Chancellor will be the members of the committee. The decision of the committee in this selection shall be final and binding.


(B) Research Incentives


Research Publication Promotion Incentives


  • Faculty member who would be able to publish research papers of excellent quality with a cumulative impact factor (Thomson Reuter) of more than five as first or corresponding may be awarded with an award certificate.
  • Any single publication by faculty member as first/corresponding author carrying impact factor (Thomson Reuter) of Five or more may be awarded with an award certificate.
  • Faculty member earning any National or International recognition (Awards/Fellowship/invited and funded international research visit) may be awarded with an award certificate.
  • Faculty member with highest h-index in the University may be awarded with an award certificate.

R & D/Consultancy Project Promotion Incentives


There may be provision of incentives for the faculty members awarded with extra mural funding for research project as per the following scheme:

The sanction grants for research projects should not be below one lakh Award certificates recognizing their research excellence

Collaborative Research project with foreign University / Institute


Any collaborative research project undertaken by the faculty with a foreign university/institute may be awarded with an award certificate.


The year in which the collaborative project commenced is the criteria for including this into the scheme.

(C)Ways to Promote Research at University Level


  • Personal Research Grants for faculty members with proven track record of good research works and research publication can be provided if possible by the university.
  • Duty leaves (for research purpose) should be sanctioned by the university to the faculty members for study visits, research visits and prestigious fellowship or scholarship stays.

KNU Research &Development Corpus fund should be created by the university in future to encourage research and innovations in the University.


ETHICS IN RESEARCH


Kazi Nazrul University plays utmost importance in encouraging its faculty for following ethical guidelines established by Research and Publication Ethics Committee in carrying out the research activities. University has established Institutional Animal Ethics Committee, Human Research Ethics Committee for research involving human subjects and animal subjects and research proposals have to undergo these committees before carrying out the research.


Plagiarism check is another important focus that the university insists for. All the PhD theses before submission must be checked by plagiarism and certificate to be submitted with signatures of both research scholar and the concerned research guide. Urkund (plagiarism software) has been provided to all the faculty for checking their research articles, research proposals and research project reports. University encourages various departments to conduct workshops in research methodology where ethics in research is an integral part of the workshops. Awareness is also created to faculty members by invited talks in ethics in research. Ethics in research is also taught for PhD research scholars as part of their course work, where ethics is an essential part of the course work.
